CDA Staff Unite in Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The Chaguaramas Development Authority (CDA) commemorated Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a series of staff engagement activities throughout October 2026, promoting awareness, early detection and the importance of prioritizing personal health and wellness.
On Friday 23rd October, employees showed their support by wearing pink in solidarity with those affected by breast cancer. Staff dressed in pink were treated to a selection of specially themed cupcakes, while a commemorative photo frame provided an opportunity to capture memorable moments and reinforce the message of unity and awareness.
A highlight of the month's activities was an informative lecture delivered by CDA Board Member, Dr. Nalini Kokaram, who shared valuable insights on breast health and preventative care.
Emphasising that "Early detection saves lives and saves money," Dr Kokaram highlighted the importance of regular breast screening, explaining how early diagnosis can improve treatment outcomes and reduce the disease's financial and emotional burden. She also discussed the differences between mammograms and ultrasounds, common risk factors, and warning signs to watch for, including changes in breast skin colour, texture, and other abnormalities.
Dr. Kokaram further encouraged employees to prioritise self-care and support one another by forming groups to attend screening appointments together, reinforcing the importance of shared encouragement and personal responsibility for one's health.
The month's activities continued on Friday 30th October with a themed breast cancer awareness word search challenge, giving employees a fun, interactive way to reinforce key messages about breast health. Small tokens of appreciation were presented to participants, bringing a light-hearted and engaging conclusion to the month's observances.

Through these initiatives, the CDA continues to foster a supportive workplace culture that values employee wellness, education and engagement, while reminding everyone that early detection can save lives.
20th Chinese Arrival Dragon Boat Festival
CDA Celebrates Sport and Culture at the 20th Chinese Arrival Dragon Boat Festival
Over the two-day event, 28 teams from across Trinidad and Tobago competed in exciting 500-metre and 200-metre races across the 16 & Under, 21 & Under, Premier and Senior categories. The festival also featured the traditional Chinese Cup, bringing together teams from the Chinese community as part of the celebration of Chinese heritage in Trinidad and Tobago.
Competition was strong throughout the weekend. Oceanus claimed first place in several Premier events, including the Premier Open and Premier Mixed 500M races, while the Fui Toong On Association captured first place in the Premier Open 200M Chinese Cup. CHAGUARAMAS JUNIOR GOLF PROGRAMME
The Chaguaramas Development Authority (CDA) officially commenced Cycle 13 of the Chaguaramas Junior Golf Programme, continuing its commitment to youth development through sport and providing young people with an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of golf at the Chaguaramas Golf Course.
The new cycle, which began in September 2026, builds on the programme’s expansion earlier this year. In April 2026, Senator the Honourable Saddam Hosein, Minister of Minister of Land and Legal Affairs and a Minister and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and Member of Parliament for Barataria/San Juan, officially opened the 2026 Junior Golf Programme at the Chaguaramas Golf Course..
The 2026 expansion broadened the programme’s reach to schools across East, Central and South Trinidad, allowing more students to experience a sport to which they may not otherwise have had access.
The Chaguaramas Junior Golf Programme provides free golf instruction to students between the ages of 7 and 16, with equipment provided for participants. Since its inception, the initiative has introduced hundreds of students from schools across Trinidad and Tobago to the sport.
More than simply teaching participants how to swing a golf club, the programme uses golf as a vehicle to encourage discipline, patience, concentration, confidence and good sportsmanship. Students receive practical instruction on the greens from experienced coaches while learning the rules, techniques and etiquette associated with the sport.
The programme is being conducted over an eight-week period from September to November 2026, with participating schools attending scheduled sessions at the Chaguaramas Golf Course. Students from primary and secondary schools are given the opportunity to develop their skills in a structured and supportive environment.
The programme forms part of the CDA’s wider efforts to maximise the recreational and sporting potential of the Chaguaramas Peninsula while creating meaningful opportunities for youth development.
Through initiatives such as the Junior Golf Programme, the CDA continues to demonstrate that the Chaguaramas Golf Course is not only a recreational facility but also a space for learning, inclusion and the development of the next generation of golfers.
As Cycle 13 gets underway, the CDA looks forward to welcoming another group of young participants to the greens and continuing to grow the programme across Trinidad and Tobago.
CDA Joins 2026 International Coastal Cleanup Efforts
The Chaguaramas Development Authority (CDA) joined organisations and volunteers across Trinidad and Tobago in supporting the 2026 International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
A CDA team comprising Board members and employees participated in the cleanup exercise at Hart’s Cut, Chaguaramas, alongside the Honourable Clyde Elder, MP, Minister in the Ministry of Public Utilities, and other participating organisations and volunteers.
Throughout the morning, volunteers worked together to remove litter and marine debris from the coastline, contributing to the wider national effort to protect Trinidad and Tobago’s coastal and marine environment.
The International Coastal Cleanup is more than a collection exercise. Volunteers also help to identify, categorise and record the waste removed from coastlines, providing valuable information that can be used to better understand marine pollution and support future waste-management and environmental initiatives.
Cleanup activities were conducted at several locations throughout Chaguaramas, with teams participating at Hart’s Cut, Chagville, Williams Bay and offshore islands. Similar ICC activities were held across Trinidad and Tobago as part of the nationwide initiative.
The CDA’s participation reflects the Authority’s continued commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainability and the protection of the Chaguaramas Peninsula’s natural resources.
The 2026 ICC formed part of a longstanding national effort coordinated by the Caribbean Network for Integrated Rural Development (CNIRD). In the previous year, more than 4,400 volunteers participated at 62 sites across Trinidad and Tobago, demonstrating the significant level of public and organisational support for cleaner coastlines.
The CDA thanks its Board members, employees and all participating organisations and volunteers who contributed their time and effort towards creating cleaner and healthier coastal spaces.
